Accountability

Lesson Summary

This week in youth, we talked about accountability and the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who help us grow spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Students learned that accountability is not about judgment or control—it’s about encouragement, honesty, support, and growth. God designed us to need community, and healthy friendships can help strengthen our faith, choices, habits, and overall well-being.

We discussed practical ways teens can encourage one another through:

  • prayer

  • Bible reading

  • healthy habits

  • honesty

  • encouragement

  • wise choices

  • serving others

Students were challenged to ask:

“Are the people around me helping me move closer to God?”

Key Bible Verses

Proverbs 27:17

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Hebrews 10:24-25

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds… encouraging one another.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

“If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”

Galatians 6:2

“Carry each other’s burdens…”

Discussion Questions for Families

  • What does healthy accountability look like?

  • Why is honesty important in friendships?

  • Who influences you the most right now?

  • What qualities make someone trustworthy?

  • How can we encourage each other spiritually at home?

  • What habits help you feel mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy?

Practical Ways Families Can Encourage Accountability

  • Pray together during the week

  • Ask deeper questions beyond “How was your day?”

  • Encourage healthy sleep and screen habits

  • Talk openly about influences like music, social media, and friendships

  • Read a short Bible passage together

  • Celebrate honesty and growth instead of perfection

  • Create a safe environment for conversations without fear or shame

Student Self-Check Questions

Encourage your student to ask:

  • Are my friendships helping me grow?

  • What influences me the most?

  • Am I spending time with God consistently?

  • Are my habits helping or hurting me?

  • Is this choice glorifying God?

Closing Encouragement

Teenagers need people who will lovingly encourage them, pray for them, and point them toward Christ. As parents, your example, conversations, and consistency matter deeply.

Thank you for partnering with us as we help students build healthy, Christ-centered lives and relationships.
