Glo In the Dark Games

Dear Parents,

We had such a fun and meaningful night together, and we wanted to share what your students experienced!

First, we kicked things off with glow-in-the-dark games. It was high energy, lots of laughter, and a great way for the youth and kids to interact together. One of the highlights was watching our youth step up to help the younger kids during the games. They encouraged them, included them, and modeled leadership in such a positive way.

After games, we gathered everyone together for a short lesson on “Honor Your Father and Mother” from Exodus 20:12. We talked about how this command was given by God as part of the Ten Commandments and why honoring parents still matters today.

We explained that honor means:

  • Showing respect

  • Watching our tone

  • Obeying with the right attitude

  • Speaking kindly about our parents (even when we disagree)

We discussed how honoring parents doesn’t mean parents are perfect, it means we choose to respond with respect.

Following the lesson, the youth led small groups with the kids. They helped guide discussion, asked questions, and prayed together. It was powerful to see older students stepping into spiritual leadership and praying over the younger ones.

Our goal for the night was simple:To build unity between age groups and to help students understand that honoring parents starts in the heart and shows up in our words and actions.

Discussion Questions for Home:

  1. What does “honor” mean in your own words?

  2. Why do you think God made honoring parents a command?

  3. What makes honoring parents difficult sometimes?

  4. What is one practical way you can show honor this week?

Application Challenge:

Have your student complete this sentence and share it with you:

“This week I will honor my parents by __________.”

It could be:

  • Doing a chore without being asked

  • Responding without attitude

  • Saying thank you more often

  • Choosing not to argue

  • Speaking respectfully, even when frustrated

Prayer Prompt for Families:

“God, help our family show honor, patience, and kindness in our words and actions. Teach us to treat each other with respect. Amen.”

Thank you for partnering with us as we help your students grow in faith and character. We are so grateful for you!
