In the Potters Hands

Youth Lesson Follow-Up: God Shapes Us Like Clay

Main Scripture

Jeremiah 18:6“Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand.”

What We Learned

Your student learned that God is like a potter, and we are like clay in His hands. A potter carefully shapes clay into something useful and beautiful. In the same way, God lovingly works in our lives to grow us, guide us, and help us become who He created us to be.

Sometimes shaping takes time. Sometimes it involves correction, patience, or challenges. But God never wastes the process.

Family Discussion Questions

Use these questions sometime this week at dinner, in the car, or before bed.

About the Lesson

  1. Why do you think God compares us to clay?

  2. What does it mean for God to shape someone’s life?

Personal Reflection

  1. What is something God may be teaching you right now?

  2. What area of life feels difficult or uncomfortable right now? Could God be using it for growth?

  3. Is there any way you feel resistant or stubborn toward change?

Family Faith Talk

  1. How can our family stay soft and teachable before God?

  2. How can we encourage each other as God shapes us?

  3. When have we seen God bring good from a hard season?

Family Application This Week

Choose One Together:

1. Pray Daily. Each day, pray: “God, shape me into who You want me to be.”

2. Encourage Growth. Notice one positive change in each family member this week and speak it out loud.

3. Practice Soft Hearts. When correction comes, respond with humility instead of defensiveness.

4. Trust the Process. If something frustrating happens this week, ask: “What might God be teaching me through this?”

Parent Encouragement

Teen years are a powerful season of growth. Even when progress seems slow, God is still working. Keep praying, keep encouraging, and trust that the Potter knows exactly what He is doing.
