Scripture: Genesis 12–14
What Students Explored
This week, we looked at how small decisions can shape a person’s future.
Abram was called by God to leave everything behind , but he brought Lot with him anyway. What may have seemed like a small adjustment eventually led to tension, separation, and even danger.
Later, Lot chose land near Sodom because it looked successful and well-watered. Over time, he moved from “near” Sodom to fully living in it. When war broke out under Chedorlaomer, Lot was captured and lost everything.
Abram rescued him, but the consequences of Lot’s decisions were still real.
After the victory, Abram honored God through Melchizedek and refused wealth from Sodom. Abram demonstrates growth, learning to fully trust God rather than compromise.
Students will make choices this year: Some Big, Some Small, Some Private, Some Public.
Ask yourself does this move me closer to God or to my own version of Sodom?
Forgiveness doesn't always remove consequences, Lot was rescued but Sodom still shaped his future.
Discussion Questions
These questions are designed to invite honest dialogue rather than lecture.
Can you think of a time when a small decision led to a bigger outcome?
Why do you think people drift slowly instead of making big, obvious mistakes all at once?
How can you tell when something looks good but may not be spiritually healthy?
When you mess up, what is your first instinct — defend, hide, blame, or admit?
What role should consequences play in learning and growth?
How can our family handle mistakes in a way that encourages responsibility but also grace?
Practical Application This Week
Encourage your student to identify:
One area where they need to make a wiser decision.
One influence that is pulling them closer to compromise.
One step they can take this week to move toward God.
You might also share:
A personal story of a decision you made as a teenager that shaped your future.
A time when facing consequences actually helped you grow.
A Note for Parents
Students are forming patterns right now that will shape adulthood. They don’t just need rules they need wisdom.
This lesson was not about fear. It was about formation.
We want students to understand:
God’s grace is real.
Integrity matters.
Small steps in the wrong direction add up.
Small steps toward God add up too.
Thank you for walking alongside your student and reinforcing these truths at home.
