Whats on the Inside Eventually Comes Out

This Week's Scripture: Luke 6:45

“Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

What We Learned

This week, students played a Skittle challenge where they had to keep adding Skittles to their mouths until they pulled two matching colors. As the game went on, it became harder to talk clearly and keep everything contained.

The lesson connection was simple: whatever fills our hearts eventually comes out through our words, attitudes, and actions.

Jesus taught that our words reveal what is happening inside of us. When we are filled with anger, negativity, gossip, or unhealthy influences, those things eventually spill out. But when we fill our hearts with God's truth, encouragement, gratitude, and worship, those things begin to overflow as well.

Key Truth

You can't control what comes out if you never pay attention to what is going in.

Scriptures to Read Together

  • Luke 6:45 – Our words reveal our hearts.

  • Proverbs 4:23 – "Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

  • Philippians 4:8 – Think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.

  • Galatians 6:7 – We reap what we sow.

Questions to Ask Your Student

  • What do you think Jesus meant when He said our words come from our hearts?

  • What influences fill your mind and heart the most during the week?

  • When you're stressed or frustrated, what usually comes out?

  • What is one healthy habit you could start to help fill your heart with good things?

Family Challenge

Choose one way to intentionally fill your home with something positive this week. Some ideas include:

  • Read a short Bible passage together.

  • Share one thing you're grateful for each day at dinner.

  • Listen to worship music in the car.

  • Pray together before bed.

  • Encourage each family member with one kind word every day.

Parent Encouragement

As parents, it's easy to focus on correcting behavior. Jesus reminds us to look deeper. Lasting change happens when God transforms the heart. Continue creating an environment where faith, grace, truth, and encouragement are consistently poured into your home.

Prayer:Lord, help our family guard our hearts and fill our minds with things that honor You. May our words and actions reflect Your love and truth. Shape us from the inside out. Amen.
